Audi launches most frugal A4

Audi has introduced its most frugal A4 model in South Africa, the new A4 2.0 TDI “Efficiency”. What sets the A4  Efficiency apart from its competitors is that it produces only 119g of CO2 per 100km, and has a claimed combined cycle fuel consumption of only 4.6-litres/100km.

The model has many innovative features to drastically reduce consumption and emissions, including the intelligent Driver Information System with efficiency drive programme, making this model the most efficient sedan in its class. In fact, it’s the first premium B-segment car in South Africa to register below the CO2 cut off of 120g/km, exempting it from the new emissions tax that comes into effect on September 1.

Furthermore, this model will be one of five models within the entire Audi model range that produces less than 140g of CO2 per kilometre, making Audi the benchmark in the premium market segment. The new Audi A4 2.0 TDI “Efficiency” comes with the Ambition trim as standard and has a recommended retail price of R350 000. It’s available in manual transmission only with Stop/Start technology. Audi remains the only premium brand in South Africa to offer start-stop technology in the B segment and introduced the system to some A4 and A5 models as early as September 2009.

Audi of South Africa is proud to announce their further partnership with FTFA (Food & Trees for Africa). Jeunesse Park, founder of Food & Trees for Africa, was handed an Audi A4 2.0 TDI ‘Efficiency” vehicle as part of the Audi Brand Ambassador programme.

As a conscientious corporate citizen, Audi SA, continuing a project started in 2008, has embarked on another 3-year Greening Project in conjunction with FTFA (Food & Trees for Africa). This will see the distribution of over 18 000 trees to indigent communities and spread the message of sustainability and harmonious living for all.

FTFA is South Africa’s national social enterprise that started in 1990 to address sustainable development through greening, climate change action, sustainable natural resource management and food security programmes. FTFA has distributed over 3.6 million trees, facilitated over 2 500 organic food gardens for the poorest in South Africa and launched the first carbon calculator and the Carbon Standard (now the Carbon Protocol) in this country.

This year is even more symbolic as it is the International Year of Biodiversity and to this Audi of South Africa will plant 6 100 trees at schools and homes in disadvantaged communities across Gauteng and Audi, as indicated above, will also introduce a food garden at Makgetsi High School through which the importance of biodiversity will also be highlighted.

The planting of 6500 in 2010 will see the sequestration of 2500 tons of carbon dioxide over the next 15 years which equates to the planting of 162 hectares of urban forest.
